Long-Dormant Facebook: Can you?
I can't stop Facebooking; model by Wardah and her computer
Last week, Wardah said that she wanted to inactivate her Facebook because she was becoming a Facebook addict. The social network created by Mark Zuckerberg easily attracts her to spend a lot of time on Facebook, even after midnight. Facebook also distracts her when she wants to concentrate on reading or studying.
When I met her last Thursday morning, I told her that I could help by showing her how to block her Facebook account so she can’t access her account. She said fine and we blocked her account successfully. Her aim was to go without Facebook account for 1 week.
One day after I had inactivated her account, she attempted once again to open Facebook. I thought she would crumble and give in to the temptations of Facebook, but she remained strong.
Until two days later… Facebook is so tempting. Wardah finally couldn’t control her desire, and after two days of inactivity, she gave up, and opened her Facebook as usual.
Perhaps, Wardah is one of many people addicted to Facebook. Maybe I am also, but I am perhaps better at managing my time. Every day I see Facebook on so many computers and even on mobile phones. People are updating their status all the time or uploading photos and comments. Also, Facebook users can chat and share their thoughts in Facebook notes. All is very interesting, indeed.
As a result, many people are addicted to Facebook. As Wardah also experienced, they spend a lot of time in front of computers or their smart phone. Sometimes they laugh loudly after commenting on someone’s post or seeing a funny picture.
Facebooking is fine as long as users can carefully control their time. Some companies and institutions in Indonesia have decided to block Facebook during work hours to stop their employees from wasting work time on Facebook.
Some schools or universities are doing the same thing. Young children usually are big fan of Facebook. As a result, they spend lots of time on Facebook.
So, I have a challenge for you: If you’re addicted to Facebook, can you inactive your Facebook for 1 week like Wardah planned to do? Maybe you will be successful, or maybe like Wardah, you will find the temptation too strong. But why not accept the challenge and see how long you can persevere?

OKE
