Bengawan Solo and Gesang

Gesang; he is the maestro of keroncong from Solo. I knew him when I was in elementary school about 1991-1997. My school and home were near with his house at Nusa Indah Street, Perumnas Ngringo. He was fit and health and rode his red motor cycle to go wheresoever.I don’t hear about him because he move to his house in Solo with his family.

I asked my parent to buy keroncong cassette. We bought in one of cassette shop in Palur market. Beside Gesang as the singer, we also bought Waljinah cassette. Those were the great keroncong songs. I like Bengawan Solo, Kacu Biru, Andheng-andheng, Pamit, Yen Ing Tawang Ana Lintang, Jembatan Merah, etc.

Last week, I went to Solo and Salatiga. I passed Bengawan Solo and Jurug Bridge. I stopped in the middle of bridge. It was about 4 days before Gesang died, 20 May 2010, in PKU Hospital Solo. I am shocked hear that news. I got the news from Twitter. I like Bengawan Solo River, Jurug Bridge (because everyday I passed it to go to SMP 8 Surakarta and SMA 3 Surakarta). I love Bengawan Solo song and Gesang as the creator and singer.
